About DrumDin

DrumDin was founded in Wallsend in 1993 as part of a community arts project as part of the North Shields Tall Ships Race. The band was originally called '100 Drummers', although that proved to be wishful thinking - there was only around 50 of us at the time

DrumDin continues to run regular rehearsals every Tuesday in our new home - St Bartholomew's Church in Longbenton. We organise regular masterclasses with visiting artists and collaborate with various other community music projects on larger events

A little taste of some of our favourite events!

Salvador, Bahia, Brazil

In 2020, we took 15 drummers to Salvador, Bahia, to study and perform at Carnaval, enriching our skills and passion for Afro-Brazilian percussion.

We had the great honour of studying with Mestres Mario Pam (Ile Aiye), and Eden Gordo (Cortejo Afro), parading with Bloco Muzenza, and even being invited to perform our own original music in Pelourinho

iPadê Ilû UK

In 2024, we hosted iPadê Ilû UK alongside our longtime friend and collaborator Pato Irie (Tdot Batu), welcoming over 70 drummers from across the UK and Europe to the Glasshouse International Music Centre to study and perform with Mestre Memeu of Olodum, one of the world's leading authorities on Afro-Brazilian percussion
